Programme Overview
Electrocardiography (ECG) is a non-invasive diagnostic procedure used to record the electrical activity of the heart over a period of time. The test is performed using an electrocardiography machine, which detects and amplifies the electrical impulses generated by cardiac muscle contractions and displays them as waveforms on paper or a digital monitor.
ECG plays a crucial role in the assessment, diagnosis, and monitoring of various cardiovascular conditions, including cardiac arrhythmias, myocardial infarction, condition abnormalities, electrolyte imbalances and structural herat disesases. It is widely used in emergency departments, intensive care units, outpatient clinics, operation theatres and cardic care units.
The study of ECG technology provide students with a thorough understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology, electrophysiology, lead placement techniques , waveform interpretation , equipoment handling , patient preparation , infection control practices and quality assurance measures.
Students receive both theoretical knowledge and practical training to accurately pereform ECG procedures , recognize normal and abnormal patterns and ensure patient safely throughout the examination process. Qualified ECG technicians and technologists play an essential role in supporting physicians in the early detection and management of cardiovascular diseases.
Career Path
With the increasing prevalence of heart related disorders and the growing demand for diagnostic services, ECG technology offers promising careers opportunities in hospitals , diagnostic centres , cardic clinics and healthcare institutions.
